President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in renewed efforts to resolve the protracted political crisis in Rivers State.
The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was also attended by other political leaders from the state. However, details of the deliberations were not officially disclosed at the time of filing this report.
Sources familiar with the engagement said discussions focused on pressing political issues affecting Rivers State, amid months of tension between the governor and his predecessor, now FCT minister.

According to The Nation, Governor Fubara later accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, following the presidential meeting. During the visit, the governor was said to have appealed to the minister and pledged to maintain mutual respect in their relationship going forward.
The rift between the two political allies had earlier plunged Rivers State into turmoil, culminating in the declaration of a State of Emergency and the temporary suspension of the governor and the State House of Assembly for six months before normalcy was restored.
Monday’s meeting marks yet another attempt by President Tinubu to broker peace between the feuding parties. Previous reconciliation efforts, though initiated at the highest level, failed to produce lasting harmony, allowing tensions in the state to persist.
