NNPP Regains Original Logo on INEC Portal, Threatens ₦10bn Lawsuit Against Electoral Commission

The National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Agbo Major, has announced that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored the party’s original logo and identity on its official portal, describing the development as a major victory for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday during a world press conference themed “Repositioning NNPP for a New Nigeria,” Major said the restoration of the party’s identity reaffirmed the legal recognition of the party’s leadership and marked a significant step in its restructuring efforts.
He declared that the party’s traditional “Basket of Fruits on the Nigerian Map” logo had replaced what he described as the “fake logo” previously associated with the faction led by former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Elder Buba Galadima.
Major invited media organisations and members of the public to verify the development on INEC’s portal, insisting that the change reflected compliance with court judgments recognising his leadership of the party.
The NNPP chairman claimed that attempts by Kwankwaso, Galadima and other party chieftains to take control of the party had failed, describing the development as a victory for the rule of law.
On preparations for the 2027 elections, Major disclosed that the party had successfully uploaded details of 355 National Assembly candidates, including placeholders, across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He also confirmed that the NNPP had uploaded the name of its presidential placeholder candidate in line with INEC’s electoral timetable, while the process of submitting governorship and State House of Assembly candidates was already underway.
According to him, the exercise is expected to be completed by August 8, 2026, after which the party will brief the media on the outcome and subsequent substitution process.
Major, however, accused INEC of failing to comply promptly with court orders directing it to recognise the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), alleging that the delay caused significant setbacks to the party’s electoral preparations.
He disclosed that the NNPP had instructed its legal team to institute a ₦10 billion lawsuit against the electoral commission for what he described as non-compliance with valid court orders.
According to him, a Federal Capital Territory High Court had ordered INEC to upload the party’s legitimate National Working Committee within 72 hours and file an affidavit of compliance within 14 days, directives he claimed the commission failed to obey.
Major argued that the delay disrupted the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections and maintained that the commission should be held accountable for the alleged breach.
Beyond the internal party developments, the NNPP national chairman urged Nigerians to support the party’s vision of national renewal, citing worsening economic hardship, unemployment and insecurity across the country.
He said the NNPP remained committed to justice, accountability, inclusiveness, good governance and policies aimed at creating jobs, empowering women, promoting national unity and driving sustainable economic growth.
Calling on youths, women, professionals, workers and Nigerians in the diaspora to join the party, Major said the NNPP’s membership portal remained open, adding that the party was prepared to collaborate with all democratic forces committed to building a better Nigeria.
He concluded by expressing confidence that the NNPP was ready to provide credible leadership and serve as a viable alternative in the 2027 general elections, declaring that “A New Nigeria is possible.”
