The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Oyebanji, winner of the 2026 governorship election.
Announcing the result on Sunday at the State Collation Centre, the Returning Officer, Professor Adenike Oladiji, said Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 40,543 votes. The African Democratic Party (ADP) candidate, Dare Bejide, garnered 12,872 votes.
According to INEC, 384,940 voters were accredited for the election. A total of 375,777 valid votes were recorded, while 6,332 ballots were rejected.
Voting commenced at about 8:31 a.m. on Saturday and officially concluded at 2:30 p.m., with over 300,000 voters participating across the state’s 16 local government areas.
With the victory, Oyebanji, who was first elected governor in 2022 and sworn into office in October of the same year, has become the first incumbent governor in Ekiti State’s history to win re-election for a second term.
