TINUBU SWEARS IN NEW MINISTERS : Tegbe Takes Over Power Ministry, Enikanolaiye Heads Foreign Affairs Role

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday formally inaugurated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was attended by senior government officials, family members of the appointees, and other distinguished guests.

The appointments followed recent changes within the Federal Executive Council (FEC) after the resignation of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue governorship ambitions in their respective states ahead of the 2027 elections.

President Tinubu subsequently nominated Tegbe and Enikanolaiye to fill the vacant positions. Both nominees were screened and confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2026.

Speaking shortly after taking the oath of office, the new ministers pledged their commitment to supporting the administration’s agenda and delivering on their respective mandates.

Tegbe, an indigene of Ibadan, Oyo State, brings over three decades of experience spanning the public and private sectors. Widely regarded for his expertise in economic management, institutional reforms, strategic planning, and policy implementation, he is expected to drive efforts aimed at improving Nigeria’s power sector performance.

Enikanolaiye, from Igbagun in Kogi State, has built a distinguished career in diplomacy and international relations. He holds a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he graduated as the best student in his faculty, and a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos with distinction.

Before his appointment, he served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff.

His diplomatic career includes postings in Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, as well as serving as Nigeria’s Head of Mission in New Delhi, India.

The inauguration marks a new chapter for both ministries as the administration seeks to strengthen power sector reforms and advance Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
