Kidnapped Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons Regain Freedom as Police Rescue Operation Kills Two Suspects

Mrs. Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons have regained their freedom following a successful rescue operation by security operatives in Oyo State.
According to reports by Channels Television, the victims were rescued alive on Saturday, June 6, 2026, during a coordinated operation carried out by security personnel.
The operation reportedly led to a gun battle between police operatives and members of the kidnapping gang, during which two suspected kidnappers were killed. Security agents also recovered two firearms from the suspects.
Sources said the breakthrough was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, tracking of the kidnappers’ movements, and well-coordinated tactical operations by security agencies.
Security operatives are said to be combing surrounding communities in search of other members of the syndicate who fled during the operation, with some believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.
Mrs. John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons were abducted on June 3, 2026, at Elewura-Challenge in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State while she was reportedly taking the children to school.
Witnesses described the abduction as a well-planned operation carried out by armed men who intercepted the victims and whisked them away. A video that surfaced after the incident showed a red Toyota Camry abandoned at the scene with its doors left open as shocked residents gathered nearby.
The family of the former minister later confirmed the abduction in a statement issued by his media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, describing the incident as unfortunate and assuring that security agencies had commenced efforts to secure the victims’ release and arrest the perpetrators.
Mrs. John-Paul, the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu, previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring in 2025. Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children and was reportedly preparing to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier relocated to the United States.
The successful rescue has brought relief to the family and renewed confidence in ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
