CUSTOMS PAYS ₦7.61BN TO 4,237 RETIREES : CGC Adeniyi Pledges Enhanced Welfare

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has disbursed ₦7.61 billion to nine Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) for the payment of retirement benefits to 4,237 retired officers, underscoring its commitment to the welfare of former personnel.
The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, announced the disbursement during a dialogue session with retired officers held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, assuring them that the funds had already been transferred to the PFAs for immediate credit into beneficiaries’ Retirement Savings Accounts.
A breakdown of the beneficiaries showed that Access-ARM Pension Managers received funds for 1,223 retirees, Premium Pension accounted for 2,268 beneficiaries, Leadway Pensions had 403, TrustFund Pensions 156, FCMB Pensions 144, Veritas Glanvills Pensions 28, Norrenberger Pensions 11, while Fidelity Pension Managers had four beneficiaries, bringing the total to 4,237 retirees.

Speaking during the engagement, Adeniyi stressed that the welfare of retired officers remains a priority, noting that the Service’s ability to meet its obligations to both serving and retired personnel is critical to its long-term sustainability.
“The Nigeria Customs Service must remain financially strong enough to fulfil its responsibilities to both serving officers and retirees. Those who devoted decades of service to this institution deserve dignity and support in retirement,” he said.

The CGC also encouraged retirees to maintain open and constructive communication with the Service, explaining that the dialogue was convened to address concerns, dispel misinformation, and strengthen mutual trust.
“I acknowledge the concerns and suggestions raised by our retirees. This dialogue is aimed at fostering better understanding and reducing the impact of rumours and unofficial information on the relationship between the Service and its retired personnel,” Adeniyi added.
Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resources Development, DCG Tijjani Abe, alongside other members of the Customs Management Team, who assured participants that issues raised would receive due consideration at both Board and Management levels.
The retirees commended the Comptroller-General and the Customs leadership for providing a platform for direct engagement, describing the initiative as a positive step towards strengthening relations between the Service and its former officers. They urged the management to institutionalise the dialogue as a regular engagement mechanism.
The meeting comes as the Federal Government advances efforts to improve pension administration through the review of relevant statutory provisions, including Section 15(4) of the Pension Reform Act 2014, in line with Section 173(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), with the aim of enhancing the welfare of retirees across the public service.
