The Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has organised a leadership seminar for its senior officers as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism, teamwork and service delivery.
The seminar, held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the PTML Command Conference Hall, focused on equipping officers with the leadership skills required to effectively deliver on the Service’s mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation and suppression of smuggling.
The initiative aligns with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, FNIPR, PSC+, to build a more efficient, motivated and service-oriented workforce.
Declaring the seminar open, the Acting Area Controller of PTML Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Ibrahim Miko, stressed the importance of effective leadership in driving organisational performance and achieving the objectives of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Miko said the Command would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving the welfare, health and productivity of officers, citing the recently introduced Work-Life Balance Initiative as part of such efforts.
Participants, drawn from the ranks of Chief Superintendent of Customs to Deputy Comptroller of Customs, received training on strategic leadership, effective communication, decision-making, conflict management and ethical conduct.
The Acting Area Controller facilitated the first session of the seminar, titled “Leadership and Followership: Building a Culture of Collaboration and Excellence.”
Miko commended the participants for their active participation and urged them to apply the knowledge gained to their daily responsibilities.
He further reassured stakeholders and members of the trading community of the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and the continuous improvement of the ease of doing business.
A major highlight of the seminar was the presentation of Certificates of Excellence to two officers in recognition of their diligence and outstanding contributions to service delivery.
The award recipients were Assistant Comptroller J.O. Ezekuse, Officer-in-Charge, Mile 2 Gate, and Chief Superintendent of Customs C.A. Ibrahim, Officer-in-Charge, Legal Unit of the Command.
Miko charged other officers to remain committed to excellence, noting that the Command has mechanisms for identifying and rewarding diligence, selflessness and efficient service delivery.
He urged officers to continue giving their best in the service of the nation, stressing that effective leadership, collaboration and professionalism remain essential to building a more responsive and efficient Customs Service.
