The management of the Omi Eko Project has dismissed reports alleging that no physical infrastructure has been delivered seven months after the project’s launch, describing the claims as misleading and inconsistent with the processes required to execute a major infrastructure project.
In a statement addressing the report, the project management said the narrative failed to recognise the extensive preparatory activities required before visible construction can commence. It explained that the project was being implemented in line with global best practices, which involve planning and procurement, design, infrastructure development, implementation and evaluation.
According to the management, major infrastructure projects require extensive technical assessments, detailed engineering designs, procurement procedures and stakeholder engagement to ensure they are technically sound, financially responsible and environmentally sustainable. It stressed that the absence of visible physical structures at an early stage should not be interpreted as a lack of progress.
The Omi Eko Project is designed to modernise Lagos State’s waterways transportation system, with the goal of delivering a safer, more efficient and environmentally sustainable transport network for residents. The management urged media practitioners and members of the public to verify information through official channels before circulating reports that could misrepresent the project’s implementation.
It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the successful delivery of the project, describing the initiative as a long-term investment in improving water transportation and mobility across Lagos State.
