The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted consignments containing explosives, 1,306 bags of expired noodles, cannabis and other prohibited items in a major enforcement operation along the nation’s western border.
The seizures underscore the Command’s intensified efforts to curb smuggling, protect public safety and safeguard Nigeria’s economy from the circulation of prohibited and potentially harmful goods.
The intercepted items, according to the Command, were uncovered through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted enforcement operations.
The seizure of explosives is particularly significant given the potential threat such materials pose to national security and public safety, while the interception of expired noodles highlights the Customs Service’s role in preventing unfit food products from entering the Nigerian market.
The cannabis and other prohibited items seized further demonstrate the Command’s continued collaboration with relevant security and regulatory agencies in tackling illicit trade across the Seme border corridor.
The Customs Service has continued to warn smugglers and other economic saboteurs that its border enforcement operations will be sustained, while compliant traders are encouraged to adhere strictly to extant import and export regulations.
