Deputy Comptroller of Customs Bolaji Lukman Adigun, Acting Customs Area Controller of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command, has announced a 35 per cent increase in revenue generation for June 2026, alongside the interception of expired disposable vape products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦809.7 million.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Command on Thursday, Adigun said the Command generated ₦19.405 billion in June 2026, compared to ₦14.364 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2025, representing an increase of ₦5.041 billion. He attributed the improved performance to enhanced stakeholder compliance, effective trade facilitation, intelligence-driven operations, and the dedication of officers and men of the Command.
On the enforcement front, Adigun disclosed that Customs officers intercepted a 40-foot container (No. TIIU4739360) laden with expired disposable vape products valued at ₦809,698,761 during cargo examination.
According to him, the container held 18 pallets containing 484 cartons, amounting to 182,340 pieces of disposable vape products. Investigations revealed that the items had expiry dates ranging from 2022 to 2026, making them unsafe for consumption and a serious threat to public health.
He said the seized products are being processed for handover to the appropriate regulatory agency for further action and safe disposal in line with established procedures.
Adigun reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to balancing trade facilitation with strict enforcement, stressing that intelligence-led operations and robust cargo examination would continue to prevent prohibited, falsely declared, expired, and other non-compliant goods from entering the Nigerian market.
He urged importers and licensed customs agents to comply with import regulations and leverage the Nigeria Customs Service’s Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Programme and Advance Ruling system to promote compliance and improve trade efficiency.
The Acting Customs Area Controller commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Service’s management for their leadership, while also appreciating officers, stakeholders, partner agencies, and the media for their support in advancing the Command’s mandate.
