President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting key members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
The directive was conveyed in an official memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and made public through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, on Tuesday evening.
According to the statement, Mr. Edun has been instructed to hand over his duties to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who now assumes office as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State within the same ministry.
In a related development, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, pending confirmation. Until his confirmation, the outgoing minister, Dangiwa, has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.
The memo further directed that all handover processes be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume stated that the reshuffle is aimed at enhancing cohesion and synergy within the administration, as well as improving economic delivery in line with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
