NSC Signs 2026 Performance Bond, Highlights Major Gains in Port Reforms

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has formally signed its 2026 Sectoral Performance Bond, reaffirming its commitment to accountability, transparency, and improved service delivery across Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Dr. Pius Akutah, MON, appended his signature to the bond during a stakeholders’ engagement held in Lagos. The ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, CON.
Oyetola stressed the importance of a results-driven culture across agencies under the ministry, noting that performance bonds are binding commitments that will be rigorously monitored to ensure compliance and delivery.
With the signing, the NSC management has reinforced its resolve to strengthen performance management systems in alignment with national development priorities.
Highlighting the Council’s 2025 achievements, Akutah disclosed that significant progress was made in the development of Inland Dry Ports (IDPs) across various locations nationwide, aimed at boosting Nigeria’s transport and logistics infrastructure.
He noted that the Council continues to play a critical role in facilitating the establishment of IDPs with strong support from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
The NSC boss also revealed that the Council’s interventions in resolving disputes between port service providers and users have saved Nigerians billions of naira while enhancing efficiency and transparency in port operations.
Akutah further pointed to the successful implementation of the Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS), which has fully digitised the Council’s documentation processes. According to him, the transition to electronic documentation has reduced delays, streamlined operations, and improved service delivery to stakeholders.
He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to driving reforms and elevating service standards within Nigeria’s port and logistics ecosystem.
