The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has honoured two distinguished marine professionals, Prince Gbadamosi Hakeem and Captain Shakirudeen Lamidi, as they retire from the Lagos State Civil Service after 35 years of meritorious service.
The Authority, in a statement, described the retirees as exceptional professionals whose careers contributed significantly to the development of water transportation, marine operations and safety on Lagos waterways.
Prince Gbadamosi Hakeem, a former Marine Operations Supervisor, was particularly recognised for his role in ensuring the efficient maintenance, deployment and operational readiness of LASWA’s fleet.
Affectionately known as “Number 1” by members of his team, Hakeem supervised daily fleet operations and coordinated LASWA captains and deckhands across the state’s waterways.
LASWA said his professionalism, commitment to operational excellence and dedication to mentorship contributed to the development of younger boat captains and marine personnel.
Hakeem began his public service career with the former Lagos State Ferry Corporation before joining LASWA, where he brought decades of institutional knowledge and marine operations experience to the Authority.
Similarly, Captain Shakirudeen Lamidi was celebrated for his decades of service as a seasoned mariner and senior boat captain.
Captain Lamidi also began his career with the Lagos State Ferry Corporation before joining LASWA in 2008. During his years of service, he demonstrated strong navigational expertise, professionalism and commitment to waterways safety.
According to LASWA, his calm leadership and extensive knowledge of the Lagos waterways earned him the respect of colleagues, passengers and other industry stakeholders.
Beyond his operational responsibilities, Captain Lamidi played an important mentoring role, helping younger captains acquire and preserve vital maritime knowledge and experience.
The Authority described the retirement of both professionals as the closing of a significant chapter in their careers, while acknowledging their contributions to the growth and development of water transportation in Lagos State.
LASWA expressed appreciation to Hakeem and Lamidi for their discipline, dedication and years of selfless service, describing them as distinguished ambassadors of the Lagos waterways sector.
The Authority wished both retirees good health, happiness and fulfilment as they begin a new chapter of their lives.
