Oyetola: Nigeria’s New National Shipping Line Set to Launch Soon

The Federal Government has recorded major progress toward the revival of a national shipping carrier, with operations expected to commence soon, according to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Speaking at the Ministry’s three-in-one stakeholders’ engagement and performance retreat in Lagos, Oyetola disclosed that the initiative has attracted strong interest from global maritime players, including AD Ports Group and DP World.
He said the planned national carrier represents a strategic move to reposition Nigeria within the global shipping space by reducing reliance on foreign operators and retaining more value within the domestic economy.
According to the Minister, the new shipping line will not only enhance indigenous shipping capacity but also generate employment and strengthen Nigeria’s participation in international trade.
Oyetola further linked the development to broader sector reforms, notably the anticipated disbursement of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF), designed to support local shipowners and boost operational capacity.
Industry stakeholders at the event welcomed the development, describing it as a long-overdue intervention capable of improving Nigeria’s competitiveness in global maritime trade.
