Omi Eko Project Appoints Dr Segun Alabi as Head of Communications

The Omi Eko Project, a €410 million flagship initiative aimed at transforming water transportation in Lagos, has appointed Dr Segun Alabi as its Head of Communications and Media.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in Lagos by the Special Adviser on Blue Economy to the Governor of Lagos State and Project Coordinator of Omi Eko, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who expressed confidence in Alabi’s ability to steer the project’s communications strategy at a crucial phase of implementation.

Emmanuel described Alabi as a seasoned corporate affairs professional with extensive experience in communications, media relations, and public affairs across multiple sectors.
In his new role, Alabi will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies, managing media relations and stakeholder engagement, and promoting the vision and sustainability goals of the Omi Eko Project.
“Dr Alabi is a highly accomplished corporate affairs professional with diverse experience spanning pay television, financial services, real estate, business membership organisations and the manufacturing sector,” Emmanuel said.

Prior to his appointment, Alabi served as Assistant Director, Corporate Affairs and Communications at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), where he oversaw corporate communications, public affairs and event management for the association.
His expertise spans reputation management, government relations, corporate social responsibility, stakeholder engagement, public policy advocacy and social media strategy—competencies considered critical to the success of a large-scale public infrastructure project such as Omi Eko.
Reacting to his appointment, Alabi described the opportunity as a personal milestone, expressing enthusiasm about contributing to the project’s success.
“I am excited to join the Omi Eko Project team. This opportunity is truly a dream come true. While the task ahead is enormous, it is certainly achievable,” he said.
Alabi holds a PhD in English from the University of Lagos, with a specialisation in language use and communication.

The Omi Eko Project is a landmark sustainable water transport initiative designed to reduce road congestion in Lagos by unlocking the state’s vast but underutilised waterways. Supported by the European Union and private sector partners, the project is expected to significantly reshape urban mobility while promoting environmentally responsible transportation across the metropolis.
