Nigeria’s maritime community will converge in Lagos on December 17, 2025, for the 10th Anniversary edition of the Annual Seminar for Maritime Journalists an industry-focused forum expected to strengthen conversations on digital trade facilitation, regulatory efficiency, and emerging economic reforms in the nation’s blue economy.
Now a decade-long knowledge hub, the seminar has evolved into a strategic business intelligence platform, equipping maritime reporters with the analytical skills needed to interpret policy actions, market dynamics, and operational trends across ports, shipping, logistics, and inland trade corridors. Its role in strengthening the sector’s information value chain has made it a key contributor to investment decisions within the maritime ecosystem.
This year’s event comes at a pivotal moment, as Nigeria accelerates digitalisation, regulatory restructuring, and transparency-driven reforms across the maritime economy.
A major highlight of the programme is a Business Dialogue Session on the National Single Window, led by its Director, Mr. Tola Fakolade. The session will provide clarity on the commercial and operational value of the platform, its impact on national competitiveness, and the media’s role in explaining its benefits to industry stakeholders.
Participants will also benefit from a hands-on training on “Data Analysis for Effective Maritime Reporting”, to be facilitated by the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Abdullahi Maiwada. The practical session aims to deepen journalists’ ability to interpret trade statistics, cargo movement patterns, revenue indicators, and operational metrics that shape business reporting in the port environment.
Delivering the keynote address is the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Akutah Ukeyima, who will speak on regulatory efficiency, investment protection, and how the media can enhance transparency and accountability in the maritime space.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Warredi Eniosuoh, brings extensive private-sector and regulatory experience aligned with the sector’s push for safer waterways, streamlined port operations, and cost-efficient cargo evacuation.
Adding weight to the event is the attendance of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, as Special Guest of Honour—underscoring the alignment of the seminar with ongoing customs modernisation, trade automation, and government-wide efforts to cut the time and cost of doing business at Nigerian ports.
Convener of the seminar and CEO of First Mediacon Network Limited, Mr. Sesan Onileimo, said the past decade has proven the value of informed, data-driven journalism in building a stronger maritime economy.
