The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has been elected President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF).
His emergence was confirmed during the Federation’s elective congress held on Saturday, 25 October 2025, at the Gymnasium Hall, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, under the supervision of the National Sports Commission.
Adeniyi’s election has been widely welcomed by athletes and sports administrators, who described his leadership profile as a timely boost for the development of one of Nigeria’s most successful Olympic sports.
Before this new role, Adeniyi had contributed to national sports development through the Nigeria Customs Service Sports Unit which has produced national champions, Olympians and international medalists across multiple disciplines.
Speaking after his victory, the Customs Boss commended ongoing reforms in the sports sector driven by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, saying the processes have restored confidence and merit into sports administration.
“I’m beginning to see the dividends of the reforms that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is putting into the sports sector… the right people, the right processes, the right systems to drive the electoral process. I am quite satisfied, and I feel this is an environment where I can work and thrive,” Adeniyi said.
He pledged to operate a transparent, structure-led and athlete-focused model prioritising integrity, professionalism, innovation and system strengthening within the Federation.
Stakeholders expressed optimism that Adeniyi’s style of inclusive leadership will help reposition the Federation, enhance athlete welfare and drive sustainable growth for Nigerian wrestling.
