In a major stride toward sustainable urban mobility, the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), will on Friday, October 17, 2025, officially launch the Omi Eko Project at the Five Cowries Terminal, Falomo.
The landmark initiative represents a key component of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s vision to transform Lagos into a smart, green, and interconnected megacity.

Expected to commence at 10:00 a.m., the high-profile ceremony will draw an audience of top government officials, development partners, transport stakeholders, and members of the media. Highlights of the event include keynote addresses, a virtual presentation showcasing the project’s impact, and the official unveiling by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

The Omi Eko Project is designed to revolutionize water transportation across Lagos by introducing state-of-the-art infrastructure, smart mobility systems, and eco-friendly technologies. The project will feature 78 high-capacity electric ferries, digital ticketing systems, intelligent terminals, and advanced safety innovations aimed at reducing commute times, easing road congestion, and enhancing passenger experience.
Speaking ahead of the launch, LASWA described the initiative as “a transformative investment in Lagos’s future — one that combines technology, sustainability, and inclusivity to create a modern, efficient, and safe water transport system.”

The choice of the Five Cowries Terminal, a key node in Lagos’s intermodal transport network, underscores the project’s goal of integrating land and water mobility in line with the Lagos Urban Mobility Plan.
