The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, MON, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda has provided the vision and political will needed to reform Nigeria’s Marine and Blue Economy sector.
Dr. Akutah made the remarks on Thursday when the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, led members of the Committee on an oversight visit to the Council’s headquarters in Lagos.

He commended the Committee’s visit and praised the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, for what he described as dynamic leadership that has repositioned the Council as a driver of trade facilitation, regulation, and sectoral growth.
The NSC boss also highlighted the passage of the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA) Bill 2025 as a landmark achievement, describing it as a turning point for the maritime industry.
“It is a milestone that will forever reshape Nigeria’s maritime sector. It guarantees fairness, transparency, and competitiveness at our ports, and reflects the legislature’s enduring legacy in strengthening this critical sector,” Akutah stated.
In his remarks, Senator Eshinlokun-Sanni explained that the oversight function was a constitutional mandate under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Our visit to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council is in line with this responsibility, which empowers the National Assembly to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in government institutions,” he said.

The Senator also assured that the Committee is fully committed to supporting the Council’s transition into the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA), stressing that the move would bolster its capacity to carry out effective regulatory oversight across the nation’s ports.
