NNPP founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, insisted that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso can not hijack the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), while questioning his current political alliance with Mr Peter Obi in NDC
Aniebonam made the assertion in an interview with World Swift News (WSN), where he spoke on the state of the nation, the NNPP leadership and the emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The NNPP founder recall that Kwankwaso had previously described Mr Obi as a junior in politics and ended with one million votes a distant 4th position to Mr Peter Obi 2023
He, however, expressed surprise that Kwankwaso was now trailing behind with Obi as his vice presidential candidate.

“Today, the same Kwankwaso is working with Obi as a junior politician,” Aniebonam said.
He further said that Kwankwaso was seeking to take control of the NNPP structure after the 2023 general elections, adding that the dispute over the party’s leadership escalated to the courts interventions

Indeed the original certificate of registration of nnpp is kept in the bank safely and constructively warehoused
When you hear that in Nigeria everything is possible in politics, do not doubt it otherwise how can inec change the colour symbol and logo of a registered political party without sighting the original certificate
This simply means that anybody or group of persons can walk into inec and change the logo and colour symbol of PDP, LABOUR Party, NDC or even APC. Indeed corruption have really gone so bad in Nigeria frankly
“As I speak , we are heading to the Supreme Court as the case may be. Kwankwaso and Buba Galadima left the NNPP and kept some unemployed characters behind, to be going from one court to another, trying to reverse the orders of the courts,” he alleged.
Aniebonam questioned the political conduct of Kwankwaso, who, he noted, was aspiring to lead the country.

“This is the same person who wants to become President or Vice President of Nigeria. How do you explain that?” he asked.
Aniebonam Questions Opposition Coalition’s Agenda
Reacting to the emerging opposition alliance involving Obi and Kwankwaso, Aniebonam questioned the coalition’s objective, arguing that opposition not be targeted against an individual person
“They say they want to come together. My question is: to do what?” he asked.
He urged Nigerians to assess the performance of government officials responsible for specific ministries and agencies rather than attributing every challenge to the President.
“PresidentTinubu has delegated functions to heads of Governments inline with the constitutional provisions of Nigeria. The people occupying these positions should be seen doing their jobs,” he said.
Tinubu Deserves Credit for Subsidy Removal
On the economy, Aniebonam said President Tinubu is doing his best under the circumstances, but maintained that the standard of living of ordinary Nigerians remained the most important measure of government performance.
He also commended the President for removing the fuel subsidy, describing the decision as courageous,
“If you want me to assess Tinubu, I would say that his courage to remove the oil subsidy is one of the things he deserves credit and stable exchange rate.
A leader must be bold enough to take a wrong decision than taking non on a matter of urgent importance. I guess that the issue is what he is doing with the proceeds of oil subsidy
It is to the public notice that some states were not able to pay salaries of workers overtime which have been resolved. Other related matters shall be prioritised but it is good to keep the government in check
Aniebonam also attributed some of Nigeria’s political challenges to campaign promises made by politicians who may not fully understand the complexities of governance until they assume office.
Insecurity Requires Collective Responsibility
On insecurity, the NNPP founder acknowledged Tinubu’s constitutional role as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces but argued that security agencies and their commanders must also be held accountable.
He said the President had delegated responsibilities and provided logistics, stressing that those entrusted with security duties must perform their roles effectively.
“Security matters are a collective responsibility. President Tinubu is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. But has the President not delegated these responsibilities and provided the necessary logistics.
The thing is that we are just deceiving ourselves and name calling an innocent man instead of doing what we ought to do as citizens of Nigeria,” he said.
He added that frequent changes in security personnel alone would not resolve the country’s security challenges, urging those assigned specific responsibilities to deliver on their mandates.
