…Hands Over to Comptroller Joe Anani Amid Emotional Farewell

Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Frank Okechukwu Onyeka, on Friday officially handed over leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island Port Command after an impactful tenure marked by record-breaking revenue generation and intensified anti-smuggling operations. Speaking during the handover ceremony in Lagos, Onyeka described his time at the Command as emotional and fulfilling, noting that the Command generated over N1.609 trillion in 2025, surpassing its annual revenue target, while also collecting more than N401 billion in the first quarter of 2026.

The outgoing Customs boss highlighted major achievements recorded under his administration, including the interception of illicit drugs and prohibited items valued at over N35 billion. He attributed the successes to intelligence-driven operations, improved compliance strategies, strong stakeholder engagement, and modern trade facilitation initiatives. Onyeka also emphasized investments in officers’ training and capacity development, alongside support for welfare initiatives championed by the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA).

Onyeka expressed deep appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, officers of the Command, and industry stakeholders for their support throughout his tenure. He formally handed over to Joe Anani, urging officers, partner agencies, and the trading community to extend the same cooperation to the new leadership to sustain and surpass the achievements already recorded at the Command.
