NNPP Disowns Coalition Summit, Warns INEC Over Court Orders Ahead of 2027 Polls

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from a recent opposition coalition meeting in Ibadan while issuing a stern warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged failure to comply with subsisting court judgments.
Speaking at a world press conference held on April 27, 2026, in Abuja, the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major, said the NNPP was neither represented nor affiliated with the coalition gathering, stressing that individuals seen at the event were expelled members.
He cautioned coalition leaders against being misled by “impostors” parading themselves as representatives of the party, insisting that such actions undermine the integrity of political engagement.

The NNPP leadership also expressed satisfaction with the progress of its electronic membership registration exercise, launched two weeks ago, describing it as part of efforts to build a transparent and technology-driven political structure. According to the chairman, the party has commenced a comprehensive review of the process, involving key stakeholders across the federation to improve efficiency and inclusiveness.
On electoral matters, the party disclosed that it recently held a meeting with Independent National Electoral Commission, where it demanded the immediate recognition and upload of its duly constituted National Working Committee on the commission’s official portal, in line with existing court rulings.
The NNPP warned that continued disobedience of court orders by INEC could compel it to join calls for the removal of the commission’s leadership in the interest of democracy and national unity.

The party further condemned what it described as impersonation and misrepresentation involving an alleged letter to INEC. It claimed that Dr Ahmed Ajuji, identified as a member of the African Democratic Congress, was wrongly linked to the correspondence, suggesting possible forgery and urging appropriate investigation.
Reaffirming its legal stance, the NNPP cited multiple court judgments—including those from Abia and the Federal Capital Territory High Courts, as well as a recent Court of Appeal ruling in Owerri—which it said upheld the dismissal of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other former party officials.
It maintained that these judgments remain valid and binding, warning that any individual or group continuing to act in the name of the party without authorization would face legal action.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the NNPP said it has already submitted its timetable of activities to INEC and called on the commission to enforce all relevant court decisions without delay.
The party reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, rule of law, and credible leadership, while inviting Nigerians who share its vision to join and participate in the forthcoming electoral process.
