40 Journalists Trained on AI, Digital Storytelling and Audience Engagement

The Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening journalism and media professionalism in Nigeria with the successful conclusion of the second edition of the #NLNGChangeYourStory Workshop for 2026 held in Lagos.

The three-day capacity-building programme brought together 40 journalists from various media organisations to explore the evolving landscape of journalism, particularly the growing influence of artificial intelligence, digital storytelling and emerging media technologies.

Participants engaged in intensive sessions focused on real-time reporting, cross-border digital audience reach, online verification, and strategic engagement on digital platforms, equipping them with tools needed to remain relevant in an increasingly technology-driven media environment.

Speaking during the workshop, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, described the initiative as part of the company’s broader commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media while promoting professional excellence in journalism.

She emphasised that credible and well-informed reporting is essential in shaping public understanding of critical sectors such as energy, economic development and sustainability.

Horsfall encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the workshop to enhance the depth, credibility and impact of their reporting.

“NLNG views this engagement as a strategic partnership. While we provide the energy that powers nations and generates revenue for our country, the media provides the information that powers minds and shapes public understanding,” she said.

The workshop featured expert-led sessions and practical training, including a digital storytelling masterclass facilitated by digital communication specialist Dan Mason, and a Journalism Clinic led by veteran media professional Taiwo Obe, where participants received hands-on guidance on improving story development and digital presence.

Through the initiative, NLNG reiterated its commitment to supporting the digital transformation of the media industry while strengthening journalists’ capacity to tell impactful stories.

Since its inception, the #NLNGChangeYourStory programme has trained over 400 journalists, equipping them with enhanced digital communication, social media, and multimedia storytelling skills needed to thrive in the modern media ecosystem.
