The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has unveiled a Green Channel initiative at Lekki Deep Sea Port, in a decisive move to simplify cargo clearance, reduce delays and improve operational efficiency.
The launch, held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, signals a significant milestone in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) drive to deepen trade facilitation through technology-driven solutions and stronger stakeholder collaboration.
Speaking at the event, Adeniyi explained that the initiative introduced by the Lekki Deep Sea Port and approved by NCS management was designed to tackle recurring challenges in container stacking and physical examinations that often slow down cargo processing at major ports.
“This particular intervention helps to move containers right from the vessel into a dedicated place where customers can have access. And between the time the container moves from the vessel to this particular place, it is tracked,” he said.
The CGC noted that the Green Channel creates a dedicated corridor for compliant cargo, ensuring seamless movement with minimal bureaucratic bottlenecks and significantly faster turnaround times for importers and port users.
He described the initiative as a product of mutual trust between Customs and stakeholders, emphasising that strict compliance and cooperation will determine its long-term success.
“What we have done today is a product of the kind of trust that we have invested in our stakeholders and the confidence that we also have in them, that they would do this in the spirit of compliance and trade facilitation,” Adeniyi stated.
Beyond easing port congestion, the Customs boss said the Green Channel aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic objective of building a more competitive and investor-friendly trade environment.
According to him, the initiative is expected to cut the cost and time of doing business at the port, while also strengthening revenue generation for the Service.
