The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has reiterated that night-time travel on all Lagos inland waterways remains strictly prohibited, warning residents and visitors to comply fully with the directive in the interest of safety.
In a statement issued on Sunday, January 11, 2026, LASWA particularly cautioned fun seekers and fans of Fuji musician, Alhaji Sule Alao Malaika, planning to attend a concert at Ilashe Beach, to make adequate travel arrangements that do not involve water transportation after sunset.
The Authority stressed that all boat operations commercial and private are restricted to daylight hours only, noting that night travel poses serious safety risks due to poor visibility and navigational hazards.
LASWA urged the public to plan ahead, arrive at their destinations early, and avoid any attempt to travel by water after sunset. Boat operators were also reminded to strictly observe approved operating hours, comply with all safety regulations, and ensure that passengers wear life jackets at all times.
The statement further disclosed that LASWA, in collaboration with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and other safety and security agencies, will intensify patrols across the waterways to enforce compliance. Defaulters, it warned, will be sanctioned in accordance with the law.
LASWA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe, efficient, and well-regulated water transportation across Lagos State, emphasizing that safety on the waterways is a shared responsibility.
