The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully concluded its 2025 Public Relations Officers (PRO) Workshop in Kano, with a renewed call on officers to uphold professionalism, resilience, and innovation in shaping the Service’s public image and strengthening stakeholder trust.
The five-day workshop, which ended on Thursday, September 26, 2025, assembled PROs, communication experts, academics, and media practitioners to explore ways of improving institutional transparency and aligning PR strategies with the Service’s ongoing modernisation agenda.
National PRO of Customs, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, lauded participants and facilitators for their dedication, stressing that the achievements of the workshop were a product of collective effort. “Whatever success we have recorded is teamwork. One cannot do it alone. This is our success,” he said.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, represented by Comptroller Abubakar Dalhatu of Kano/Jigawa Command, commended participants for their commitment and noted positive feedback on the Service’s image. “A professor revealed to me that, as a result of this workshop, the perception of the Nigeria Customs Service has changed from negative to positive. I was happy to hear this,” Dalhatu stated.
Reiterating the charge to officers, the CGC urged PROs to sustain consistency in communication: “We have many upright officers with integrity. It is our duty to continue to push this narrative.”
The closing dinner featured awards for outstanding PR officers, while participants also embarked on a cultural and educational tour across Kano, visiting Minjibir Park, Gidan Makama Museum, and Gidan Dan Hausa, alongside enjoying traditional dances and entertainment. The tours highlighted the Service’s effort to blend professional capacity building with cultural appreciation.
