President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. Mr. Adeniyi, whose current term was scheduled to conclude on August 31, 2025, will now continue in office until August 2026.
The Presidency stated that the extension is aimed at allowing Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate key reforms and see through critical initiatives aligned with the administration’s economic and trade agenda.
Among the core areas identified for continued implementation during the extended tenure are:
The modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service; The full rollout of the National Single Window Project; and The advancement of Nigeria’s commitments under African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
President Tinubu praised Mr. Adeniyi for his “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” noting that his continued presence at the helm would further strengthen the Customs Service in fulfilling its strategic objectives of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national border security.
The extension underscores the administration’s drive to maintain stability and sustain progress within key federal institutions as part of broader efforts to enhance Nigeria’s economic competitiveness.
