Adeniyi Scores Double Victory: WCO Renews Chairmanship, Tinubu Extends CGC Tenure

The management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Monday accorded a warm reception to the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, upon his return from Brussels, Belgium, where he secured a renewed one-year mandate as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.
Adeniyi, who arrived at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, was received by senior management officers and personnel following his participation in the 147th and 148th Sessions of the WCO Council.
The renewed international mandate comes alongside the recent six-month extension of his appointment as Comptroller-General by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscoring growing confidence in his leadership both at home and on the global stage.

During the reception, members of the NCS management congratulated the Customs boss on the twin achievements and presented him with a commemorative souvenir in recognition of his visionary leadership and the ongoing transformation of the Service.
Speaking at the event, Adeniyi expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of the management team, describing the recognition as a testament to the unity and shared commitment within the Nigeria Customs Service.
According to him, he had travelled to Brussels expecting to formally hand over the WCO Council chairmanship at the end of his tenure, but member countries instead renewed his mandate for another year.
“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” Adeniyi said.
The renewed confidence reposed in the Customs chief is expected to strengthen the Service’s ongoing reform agenda, deepen international cooperation, enhance trade facilitation, and reinforce Nigeria’s influence in global customs administration.
