Hope Rises for NSC Staff as Salary Review Awaits Final Nod

The proposed salary review for workers of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has progressed through key stages of government consideration, having secured approvals from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Speaking at the recently NSC 2026 Strategic Management Retreat held in march Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Council, Dr. Pius Akutah Ukeyima, redescribed staff welfare as a critical component of the Council’s transformation agenda and announced that the salary review proposal had received the necessary endorsements from both institutions.

However, the President of the Senior Staff Association of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Comrade Muktar Yakubu, has clarified that the review is yet to receive final approval from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), the statutory body responsible for approving remuneration structures for federal agencies. According to him, the proposal was forwarded to the Commission after ministerial approval, while additional information requested by the Commission has already been provided and the Budget Office of the Federation has also granted its clearance.

Yakubu also dismissed claims of widespread staff dissatisfaction, noting that management has continued to implement welfare initiatives within available resources. While expressing optimism that the process is nearing completion.
