Mobereola Felicitates Maritime Stakeholders at Yuletide, Assures Better Outlook for 2026

The Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dayo Mobereola, has extended yuletide greetings to stakeholders in the Nigerian maritime industry, commending their contributions to the sector’s progress in 2025.
Dr Mobereola described 2025 as a successful year for the industry, assuring stakeholders that the Agency would intensify its efforts to ensure even greater achievements in 2026.

Highlighting key milestones recorded during the year, the NIMASA boss cited the sustained zero tolerance for piracy in Nigerian waters, the deposit of three Instruments of Accession to International Maritime Organization (IMO) Conventions signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, continued industrial harmony within the sector, and Nigeria’s election into Category C of the IMO Council.
“The year 2025 has been a good one for our industry. Once again, we did not record a single piracy incident in Nigerian waters throughout the year. Nigeria also successfully deposited three Instruments of Accession to IMO Conventions signed by Mr President, maintained industrial harmony in the sector, and these collective efforts culminated in our election into the Category C Council of the International Maritime Organization,” he said.

Dr Mobereola acknowledged that these achievements were made possible through the collaboration and support of industry stakeholders.
“We could not have achieved these milestones without the invaluable contributions of our stakeholders. We appreciate your efforts, we thank you, and we felicitate with you during this yuletide season,” he added.
Calling on maritime operators to approach the new year with optimism, the NIMASA Director-General noted that Nigeria’s membership of the IMO Council comes with increased responsibility.
“At NIMASA, we fully appreciate the weight of this renewed responsibility. To whom much is given, much is expected. You can therefore expect increased momentum in our resolve to sustain maritime safety, security, environmental protection, and strict adherence to relevant conventions and protocols with renewed vigour,” he stated.

Dr Mobereola concluded by expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, CON; industry stakeholders; as well as NIMASA management and staff for their support. He also wished Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
