The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the interception of a large consignment of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, valued at over ₦562.5 million along the Gbaji–Seme Road in Lagos State.
Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu, who heads the unit, disclosed this during a brief handover ceremony at his office on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

According to him, the operation took place at about 5:00 p.m. on October 17, 2025, when operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended one Uduak Monday, who was found in possession of a nylon bag tightly sealed with sellotape.
“Upon examination, the contents were confirmed to be crystal methamphetamine weighing 25 kilograms, with an estimated street value of ₦562,500,000,” Shuaibu said.
The Comptroller emphasized that the seizure reflects the unit’s unwavering commitment to combating all forms of smuggling while reinforcing the importance of inter-agency collaboration.

He added that the illicit substance and the suspect had been formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Receiving the exhibit and the suspect on behalf of the NDLEA Chairman, the Commander of Narcotics, Lagos State Strategic Command, CN Abubakar Liman, commended the Customs Service for its sustained collaboration in the fight against drug trafficking.
“The contributions of the NCS in the ongoing war against drug trafficking are remarkable,” Liman said. “We will continue to keep the unit informed as the case progresses in court.”

He further lauded the FOU for strengthening the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between both agencies, describing the partnership as vital to dismantling drug smuggling networks across Nigeria’s borders.
