Master mariner and former Minister of Interior, Emmanuel Ihenacho; Chairman of Starzs Group and pioneer President of the Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN), Greg Ogbeifun; and former National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Olayiwola Shittu, are among prominent maritime stakeholders set to attend the upcoming reception in honour of past presidents of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria.
The high-profile event, scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, is expected to attract key industry players, policymakers, regulators, and corporate stakeholders, underscoring its significance within Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Organised by MARAN, the reception is designed to celebrate the contributions of its former leaders, whose stewardship has helped shape the association into a leading voice in maritime journalism. The event is also expected to serve as a platform for strengthening collaboration between the media and industry stakeholders at a time of ongoing reforms in the sector.

In a statement signed by Chairman of the MARAN Caretaker Committee, Tunde Ayodele, and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Funsho Olojo, the association confirmed that preparations for the ceremony have been concluded, with strong support recorded across the maritime community.
Described as a landmark gathering, the reception will bring together ministry officials, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, and other critical stakeholders. It will feature award presentations, goodwill messages, and networking sessions aimed at fostering deeper industry engagement.
Ayodele noted that the event provides an opportunity to reflect on the enduring legacy of past presidents, while reinforcing the role of maritime journalism in promoting accountability and sectoral growth.

Olojo, who also chairs MARAN’s Board of Trustees, highlighted the achievements of former leaders, noting their continued impact across various fields, including media, law, public service, and entrepreneurship.
He added that the event will showcase their accomplishments while celebrating excellence, leadership, and service within the association.
Founded 38 years ago, MARAN remains Nigeria’s foremost maritime journalists’ body, with its International Press Centre located in Apapa, Lagos. The association continues to champion ethical reporting, capacity building, and informed journalism in the maritime and blue economy sectors.
