Customs Honours First Female Pilot with Commercial Multi-Engine Licence

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has honoured Superintendent of Customs Nafisat Balogun following her landmark achievement of obtaining a Commercial Multi-Engine Pilot Licence in the United States.
The recognition ceremony, organised by the Nigeria Customs Technical Hangar Service, drew senior officers, management staff, and colleagues who gathered to celebrate what has been described as a historic milestone for the service. Balogun’s accomplishment makes her the first female pilot in the NCS, breaking into a field long dominated by men.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Customs Technical Hangar Service, retired Comptroller of Customs Captain Kuhi Mbaya, praised Balogun’s journey as both inspiring and transformative.

“Our officer, Nafisat Balogun, has transitioned from a cabin attendant to a fully qualified commercial pilot. This achievement is significant not only for her but for the entire service,” he said.
Mbaya noted that her success reflects the expanding opportunities within the NCS and sets a precedent for others to follow.
“For the first time, we have a female pilot in the Nigeria Customs Service. This is a record worth celebrating and recognising,” he added.
He further encouraged women within and beyond the service to pursue their ambitions with confidence, stressing that longstanding barriers are being dismantled.
“This accomplishment demonstrates that there are no limits. The glass ceiling has been broken, and with determination and consistency, more women can realise their aspirations,” Mbaya said.
He also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for fostering an inclusive environment that supports gender advancement within the service.
In her remarks, Superintendent Balogun expressed gratitude for the recognition and the support she received throughout her journey.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled by this warm reception. The journey has been challenging, but I am thankful for the encouragement and belief shown in me,” she said.
She credited the leadership of the service for playing a critical role in her achievement.
“I sincerely appreciate the Comptroller-General and the entire management team for their unwavering support. This accomplishment reflects that collective encouragement,” she added.
Balogun reaffirmed her commitment to excellence, pledging to uphold the highest standards in her service.
“I remain committed to serving with dedication, integrity, and professionalism,” she stated.
Colleagues at the event described her achievement as a source of inspiration, particularly for female officers, noting that her success has broadened possibilities within specialised roles in the service.
