The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has celebrated the resilience, dedication, and outstanding contributions of women across the maritime sector as the world marked International Women’s Day.
In a statement commemorating the occasion, the Managing Director of NPA, Abubakar Dantsoho, praised the growing role of women in critical maritime operations, noting that female professionals within the authority are excelling in fields traditionally dominated by men.
According to him, women at the authority are making significant impacts in operational and technical roles including firefighting, security, marine piloting, engineering, hydrography, administrative duties, and maritime-support services such as aids to navigation.
Dantsoho emphasised that the authority has deliberately prioritised gender equality in its leadership structure, particularly in key advisory and technical positions.
“Women currently occupy 60 per cent of my aides and Technical Assistant roles, while men account for the remaining 40 per cent. This deliberate step underscores the NPA’s commitment to advancing women’s participation and success across the maritime industry,” he said.
The authority noted that the achievements of women within its workforce reflect a broader commitment to inclusivity and empowerment in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
NPA therefore saluted the remarkable women within the organisation and across the industry for their dedication, professionalism, and determination to break barriers while driving progress and shaping a more equitable future for the sector.
