The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy,
Adegboyega Oyetola, on Monday received State Directors of the City Boy Movement (CBM) from the Southwest region at his office in Abuja, in a meeting that highlighted the strategic role of youth mobilisation in national development and governance awareness.
The delegation, led by the Oyo State Director of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Lamiju Alao-Akala, briefed the Minister on the movement’s objectives, programmes, and expanding footprint across the region. The CBM, a youth-driven sociopolitical platform, promotes civic participation, policy awareness, and support for progressive governance initiatives aligned with the reform agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Since its inception, the movement has evolved into a structured network of young professionals, students, entrepreneurs, and community organisers engaged in advocacy, town hall meetings, policy sensitisation, volunteer initiatives, and digital outreach aimed at deepening democratic participation and national cohesion.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Alao-Akala said the movement was founded on the belief that Nigeria’s youthful population must be actively informed, inspired, and integrated into governance processes. He noted that CBM has been working across Southwest states to bridge the information gap between government policies and young citizens by translating national reforms into relatable and accessible messaging.
According to him, the group’s outreach covers key policy areas including economic restructuring, infrastructure development, youth empowerment programmes, and social investment initiatives, with a focus on fostering informed civic consciousness among young Nigerians.
The delegation explained that its engagement with the Minister formed part of CBM’s strategic consultations with senior government officials whose portfolios directly impact economic growth and employment generation. Highlighting the vast potential of the Marine and Blue Economy sector, the group emphasised opportunities in coastal trade, logistics, fisheries, marine services, and port-related industries as viable pathways for youth employment and entrepreneurship.
In his response, Oyetola commended the City Boy Movement for its proactive approach to youth engagement, describing the initiative as timely and aligned with national priorities. He underscored the importance of reaching young Nigerians with accurate information on government policies and programmes, noting that youth inclusion remains critical to democratic stability, economic progress, and social cohesion.
The Minister stated that the administration of President Tinubu has recorded notable milestones across economic reform, infrastructure expansion, social intervention, and institutional strengthening, adding that these achievements must be clearly and consistently communicated, particularly to young citizens who are both beneficiaries and stakeholders in Nigeria’s future.
Oyetola further reiterated that the Marine and Blue Economy holds immense untapped potential for job creation and enterprise development. He assured the delegation of the Ministry’s readiness to support credible youth-focused initiatives that promote economic inclusion and national development awareness.
Other CBM Directors in the delegation included Moyo Ogunlewe (Lagos), Kasali Oluwafemi (Ekiti), and Kayode Sowande (Osun).
