FAAN Intensifies Nationwide HMO Enrollment to Improve Staff Healthcare Access

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has renewed its directive to employees nationwide to complete their registration and select a preferred Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), reinforcing its commitment to staff welfare and structured healthcare access.
The directive, conveyed through an internal circular dated 13 January 2026, was signed by the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Emiola Olatunbosun, who also serves as Chairman of the FAAN NHIS–HMO Committee. The memo was circulated across all levels of the organisation, including the Managing Director and Chief Executive, directors, regional general managers, airport managers, general managers and staff, to ensure widespread awareness and compliance.

FAAN explained that the registration exercise aligns with the federal government’s policy mandating health insurance coverage for all citizens. Management, however, stressed that the initiative goes beyond regulatory compliance, noting that the HMO framework is designed to enhance healthcare delivery, reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses, and guarantee consistent access to quality medical services for employees across the country.
To simplify the process, the Authority has deployed a dedicated digital platform through which staff can select their preferred HMO. Employees are required to choose one provider from three approved HMOs—AXA Mansard, Leadway Health, and Avon Healthcare—via the official portal, hmo.faan.gov.ng. Management said the centralised system is intended to improve transparency, minimise administrative bottlenecks, and encourage staff participation in healthcare decisions.

While no specific deadline has been announced, FAAN noted that the National Health Insurance Authority’s formal registration timeline will be communicated in due course. The phased approach, according to management, allows employees adequate time to assess their HMO options ahead of full NHIS implementation.
The NHIS–HMO Committee urged staff to prioritise the enrollment exercise, warning that early registration would help prevent disruptions to healthcare access during the transition period. Management also directed that the circular be prominently displayed on notice boards across all FAAN facilities to ensure inclusiveness.
FAAN said the renewed focus on healthcare reflects broader welfare-driven reforms across Nigeria’s aviation agencies, where employee wellbeing is increasingly viewed as critical to operational efficiency and service delivery. Referencing internal memo FAAN/W&MS/01/26, the Authority reaffirmed its alignment with national health policy reforms and its commitment to improving staff welfare through digital innovation.
As FAAN continues to modernise its internal systems, management emphasised that employee welfare remains central to organisational stability. The HMO programme, the Authority noted, is expected to enhance morale, boost productivity, and provide long-term healthcare security for staff across Nigeria’s airport network.
