Top Maritime Stakeholders Rally in Lagos Set For MAMAL 2025 to Tackle War Risk Costs

Leading figures in Nigeria’s maritime and allied sectors will gather in Lagos on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, for the third edition of the Maritime Annual Maritime Lecture (MAMAL), organised by the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN).

The high-level forum, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, will centre on the theme: “Addressing the Burden of War Risk Insurance on Nigeria’s Maritime Trade.”
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, will attend as Special Guest of Honour. Other key participants include regulators, industry operators and security stakeholders.

Dignitaries expected are NIMASA Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola; Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barr. Pius Akutah Ukeyima; Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Gregory Oaemen; and Tantita Security Services Executive Director (Operations & Technical), Capt. Warredi Enisuoh.

The lecture will be chaired by Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, Chairman of Starzs Investment Ltd., with the keynote address to be delivered by maritime lawyer, Dr. Emeka Akabogu. Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho, Chairman of Integrated Oil & Gas, will also grace the event as a guest of honour.

MARAN President, Godfrey Bivbere, said MAMAL 2025 will provide a platform for frank dialogue and practical recommendations to mitigate the high cost of war risk insurance premiums burdening vessels calling at Nigerian ports. He assured that the calibre of participants and the relevance of the discussions would make this year’s event particularly impactful.

Now in its third year, MAMAL has grown into a premier forum for addressing key challenges affecting the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
