The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI), will host the 18th International Maritime Seminar for Judges from Wednesday, July 22 to Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Ball Room, Ladi Kwali Conference Centre, Abuja Continental Hotel (formerly Sheraton Hotel), Abuja.
The three-day seminar, scheduled to run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will bring together judicial officers, maritime law experts, policymakers and key industry stakeholders to deliberate on contemporary legal issues shaping Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The 2026 edition marks 31 years of the landmark judicial capacity-building initiative, which was established in 1995 to strengthen the administration of maritime justice in Nigeria.
Over the years, the International Maritime Seminar for Judges has evolved into the country’s foremost platform for advancing judicial knowledge in maritime law and admiralty practice. The annual event continues to enhance the capacity of judges to effectively adjudicate complex maritime disputes while promoting consistency, efficiency and certainty in maritime jurisprudence.
The seminar is also expected to reinforce collaboration between the judiciary and key stakeholders in the maritime and blue economy sectors, further supporting Nigeria’s efforts to develop a robust legal framework that promotes trade, investment and sustainable growth in the nation’s maritime industry.
