NRC Confirms Abuja-Kaduna Train Incident, Assures Passenger Safety

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed an operational incident involving the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) after a coach developed a hot axle near Rigasa Station in Kaduna on Wednesday evening.

In a statement issued Thursday in Lagos, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, explained that the issue resulted from abnormal wheel friction caused by excessive heat.
He said the situation was immediately contained, and the train was safely marshalled to Kaduna without harm to passengers.

Unyimadu noted that the affected coach would impact business class capacity on subsequent trips, but passengers booked on the coach had been contacted and provided alternative arrangements.

“The NRC management is working to minimise the disruption and ensure that normal services resume quickly,” he said, while assuring passengers of continued safety and reliable service across the corporation’s networks.
He added: “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and remain committed to delivering the best travel experience on all our train routes.”
