In a historic and first-of-its-kind initiative within the maritime media industry, the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has concluded plans to celebrate its past presidents in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the growth and transformation of the association.
The event, described as a rare show of appreciation, will honour former leaders whose dedication, resilience, and sacrifices have helped position MARAN as a leading voice in maritime journalism. The celebration is scheduled to take place at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, on April 24, 2026, at 3:00 pm.
According to a statement jointly signed by the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tunde Ayodele, and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Funso Olojo, the event will bring together friends, associates, and well-wishers of the association to honour the distinguished past leaders.
Ayodele noted that four deceased former presidents will also be recognised posthumously, with their families invited to receive awards on their behalf in acknowledgment of their enduring legacies.
He emphasized that the celebration reflects MARAN’s deep appreciation for leadership marked by vision, passion, and unwavering commitment, which has shaped the association into a formidable force within the maritime sector.
The chairman further highlighted the recent professional milestone of one of MARAN’s past presidents, Bolaji Akinola, who was appointed Special Adviser on Communications to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Ayodele described Akinola’s appointment as a source of pride for the association, noting that the upcoming ceremony provides an ideal platform to commend both the honouree and the minister for recognising competence within MARAN’s ranks.
