The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has clarified its position on the recent developments within the maritime and freight forwarding sector, particularly as they relate to ongoing discussions involving economic regulators and stakeholders.
The General Secretary Mr Emeka Nwosu, speaking on behalf of the National President, emphasized that NAGAFF operates strictly within its established administrative structure and does not take unilateral actions without clear directives from its national headquarters.
According to the Nwosu while NAGAFF does not often engage publicly on issues of this nature, the current situation necessitated internal consultation.
He disclosed that earlier on the day of the development, he contacted the National President of NAGAFF to fully brief him on the unfolding events.
“Following the briefing, the National President directed that a formal letter be written to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council requesting a meeting scheduled for Tuesday. That directive has been complied with, and the letter will be officially dispatched today,” he stated.
He stressed that this step represents NAGAFF’s official and procedural approach to resolving the matter, noting that the association has not yet received any direct communication from the Nigerian Shippers’ Council on the issue.
The association also expressed concern over claims by some regulators that meetings had been held with stakeholders, insisting that, to the best of NAGAFF’s knowledge, no such engagement took place with its leadership.
“NAGAFF is not in support of any increment that has been suggested, and at this time, the association has not taken any position on any form of industrial action,
“Any decision of that magnitude rests solely with the National President and the association’s governing organs.” Nwosu Clarified.
He further cautioned against attributing any action or position to NAGAFF without proper authorization, stating that discussions held at lower administrative levels or between individuals should not be misconstrued as the official stance of the association.
Reiterating the association’s position, he said NAGAFF remains committed to dialogue and strategic engagement, adding that the forthcoming meeting with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council will provide an opportunity for constructive discussion and clarity.
“NAGAFF believes in due process, consultation, and responsible engagement. Our position remains guided by the directives of the National President, and we urge all parties to avoid misquoting or misrepresenting the association’s stance,” he concluded.
The association reaffirmed its readiness to engage relevant authorities in the interest of its members and the overall stability of the maritime and freight forwarding sector.
