The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has restated its commitment to promoting integrity, accountability, and corruption-free operations across the maritime industry.
The reaffirmation came during a workshop held at the Council’s headquarters in Lagos to mark the 2025 Anti-Corruption and Transparency Day. The event, themed “Uniting Youth Against Corruption: Shipping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” underscored the crucial role of young people in shaping a transparent and accountable maritime sector.
In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah, MON, represented by the Director of Finance, Mr. Steve Olaniyi, described the workshop as part of the Council’s continuous efforts to strengthen accountability frameworks and reinforce operational transparency. He noted that empowering young people with the right values is essential to sustaining long-term anti-corruption initiatives.
Olaniyi further reiterated the management’s commitment to supporting the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) and advancing the Council’s mandate to uphold integrity in all its processes.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, represented by Dr. Hadiza Rimi, commended the Council for its consistent efforts in strengthening internal controls, improving service delivery, and collaborating with anti-corruption bodies to enhance transparency in the maritime sector.
He encouraged staff to remain vigilant, reject unethical influences, and uphold integrity across all responsibilities. According to him, the fight against corruption begins with individual choices, and collective action is essential to creating systems where transparency thrives.
Speaking in an interview, the Chairman of the NSC Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, Mr. Zubairu Mohammed, affirmed the Council’s readiness to intensify its anti-corruption efforts and guide staff toward honesty, professionalism, and ethical conduct throughout their careers.
