Comptroller Aliyu Gambo has officially taken over leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Lagos, following a formal handover ceremony on Wednesday.
He succeeds ACG Mohammed Shuaibu, who recently earned elevation to the rank of Assistant Comptroller General (ACG), Headquarters. The brief but colorful ceremony at the FOU Zone A office in Ikeja featured glowing tributes and gift presentations from officers in recognition of Shuaibu’s impactful tenure.
Shuaibu Highlights Achievements
In his valedictory remarks, ACG Shuaibu described the handover as “another significant milestone,” reflecting on a tenure marked by intelligence-driven operations and notable anti-smuggling breakthroughs.
Since assuming office on 23 April, he said, the unit recorded:
• 476 interceptions
• 761 seizures valued at N10.1 billion, including:
• 38 trailers of foreign parboiled rice
• 98 used exotic vehicles
• 2,350kg of Cannabis Sativa
• 1,820 jerrycans of PMS
• 15 assorted rifles & 4,841 rounds of ammunition
• 2 industrial drones
• 25kg of crystal methamphetamine
• 4 industrial explosives (50kg each)
• $20,000 & 110 CFA (₦31 million) handed to EFCC
• 8 containers of expired pharmaceuticals valued at N7.1 billion
• 38 suspects arrested
• N419 million recovered through Demand Notices on under-valuation and false declarations
Shuaibu expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the opportunity to serve, urging officers to extend full cooperation to his successor.
Gambo Aliyu Sets New Agenda
In his maiden address, Comptroller Gambo Aliyu thanked the CGC for the confidence reposed in him and praised his predecessor for “adding great value” to the Service.
He pledged to consolidate on the achievements of ACG Shuaibu and outlined priority areas for the unit, including:
• Strengthened enforcement and intelligence-driven operations
• Upholding integrity, discipline, and accountability
• Enhanced collaboration with sister agencies and community leaders
• Improved officer welfare and capacity building
• Robust reputation, change, and compliance management systems
Aliyu assured that with the cooperation of officers and men, FOU Zone A would continue to excel in safeguarding the nation’s borders and economic interests. The event featured special presentations to ACG Shuaibu from the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), FOU Zone A Chapter, along with additional gifts from officers and men in appreciation of his exemplary leadership.
