The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has eulogised former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, describing him as a man of intellect.
This is contained in a statement signed by Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Chief Press Secretary to the Oba of Benin, on Friday.
Oba Ewuare made the statement when he received the Commissioner of Police in Edo command, Monday Agbonika, who led other senior police officers to his Palace in Benin.
The Oba of Benin expressed condolences to the Nigeria Police Force, Arase’s family, and the Edo government over Arase’s passing, which was reported at the age of 69 on Aug. 31, in an Abuja hospital.
Oba Ewuare described Arase as a man who stood out for both his looks and intellect.
He noted that Arase was very close to the Benin Palace, well-read, and a Barrister who even published a book.
Oba Ewuare stated, “His death is a major loss. It was quite sudden.”
Ewuare prayed to God Almighty and his ancestors to keep officers and men of the Nigeria Police force from harm’s way.
The Oba’s tribute to Arase’s legacy highlighted the former IGP’s significant contributions to the nation and his impact on the police force.
Earlier, CP Agbonika acknowledged the cooperation the command under his supervision has enjoyed since he was deployed to the state in April.
He sought support of the Oba and community leaders in identifying and addressing security problems in the state.
Agbonika urged continued support from the Oba of Benin for a Community Safety Partnership Initiative.
He explained that the partnership aimed to address crime problems in the state and solicited the Oba’s permission and blessings to move forward
