Carpenter bags 1 month imprisonment for stealing cell phone

A Karu Magistrates Court in Abuja sentenced Mr Emmanuel Solomon, 20, to one month in prison for stealing a cell phone.
Magistrate Lami Sani did not grant any option of fine but warned Solomon to desist from criminal activities.

Solomon, who lives in Kugbo, Abuja, pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.

Prosecution counsel Olarewaju Osho informed the court that the complainant, Helen Omachonu of Karu, reported that on July 13, Solomon unlawfully entered her laundry shop in Karu and stole a Tecno cellphone valued at N5,000.

Osho added that in Dec. 2024, Solomon returned to the shop and stole two rugs belonging to a customer, an act captured by CCTV.

“During police investigations, Solomon confessed to both offences, and the stolen phone was recovered.”
The charges contravened sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
