In a bold step poised to reshape Nigeria’s international logistics landscape, SIFAX Shipping Company Ltd. has unveiled a direct Less-than-Container Load (LCL) export service to the United Kingdom, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming transshipments through third-party countries.
The innovative service is being delivered in partnership with Netcargo UK Limited, a subsidiary of the globally respected Net Cargo Group.
The arrangement is expected to significantly streamline outbound shipments from Nigeria to the UK, cutting down delays and improving delivery predictability particularly for small and medium-sized exporters.
According to Mr. Adekunle Owobamirin, General Manager of Groupage and Export Services at SIFAX Shipping, the new export route offers Nigerian businesses especially SMEs a competitive edge.
“This is one of the most important moves we’ve made in advancing our export portfolio. We’re now positioned to offer uninterrupted export services to the UK market, giving our clients the ease and confidence they need to grow their international trade volumes,” he said.
Owobamirin highlighted that the direct export lane to the UK would lower logistics costs, improve turnaround times, reduce risk, and boost exporters’ confidence in meeting global standards.
In a parallel development, SIFAX Shipping also announced a strategic import partnership with WSC Logistics and Shotto Logistics Limited a move that opens up more efficient import channels for Nigerian-bound cargo from global trade hubs like India and China.
Describing the new collaboration as a “third-party consolidator arrangement,” Owobamirin explained that smaller logistics firms can now leverage SIFAX’s bonded terminals, upgraded warehouse infrastructure, and deep technical expertise for seamless cargo handling and clearance.
“Our bonded warehouse operations have been upgraded to accommodate a surge in import volumes,” he revealed.
“Trial shipments began in June, and we’re ramping up full-scale operations through July. This ensures faster clearance and dispatch with minimal delays.”
Industry observers say the dual announcement covering both direct exports to the UK and enhanced imports from Asia could serve as a major boost for Nigeria’s trade competitiveness, job creation, and economic diversification.
Owobamirin also noted that by expanding trade routes and reducing barriers, the initiatives would enable local exporters to thrive in a challenging global market while driving employment across the logistics value chain.
