152 Riverine Communities to Benefit as Blue Lagos, LASHMA Roll Out Telemedicine Services

Blue Lagos Initiatives and the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at expanding access to healthcare services across 152 riverine and coastal communities in Lagos State through the deployment of a comprehensive Telemedicine Scheme.
The partnership was formalized during a high-level meeting between the Blue Lagos delegation, led by its Convener, Mr. Saheed Adesanya, and the LASHMA management team, headed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba. Discussions focused on leveraging technology-driven healthcare solutions to address the unique challenges faced by underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
Under the proposed initiative, residents of riverine and coastal settlements will be able to access medical consultations remotely, receive professional health advice, obtain referrals, and benefit from follow-up care without the burden of traveling long distances to healthcare facilities.
Speaking on the significance of the collaboration, Mr. Adesanya described the initiative as a major milestone in efforts to improve healthcare delivery and quality of life for residents of Lagos’ coastal communities.
“Healthcare remains a fundamental need for every citizen. This partnership demonstrates our shared commitment to ensuring that residents of riverine and coastal communities are not left behind in accessing quality healthcare services. Through technology-driven solutions, we can bridge existing gaps and bring healthcare closer to the people,” he said.
Dr. Zamba reaffirmed LASHMA’s commitment to advancing universal health coverage and improving healthcare accessibility across Lagos State. She emphasized the critical role of innovation, digital health solutions, and strategic partnerships in reaching vulnerable populations.

The Telemedicine Scheme is expected to significantly improve healthcare outcomes, reduce barriers to medical consultations, encourage preventive healthcare practices, and provide thousands of residents with timely access to professional medical support.
Both organizations also agreed to deepen collaboration on implementation strategies, community sensitization campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability frameworks to ensure the successful rollout and long-term impact of the programme.
The initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader vision of promoting inclusive development and ensuring equitable access to essential services for all residents, regardless of location.
Blue Lagos is a development-focused platform dedicated to advancing sustainable growth, environmental stewardship, economic empowerment, and improved living standards across Lagos State’s riverine and coastal communities through strategic partnerships and blue economy initiatives.
