MMIA Customs Gets New Controller as Nwokorie Pledges Stronger Revenue Drive, Trade Facilitation

The Muritala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Thursday witnessed a change of leadership as Comptroller Chidi Nwokorie assumed duty as the new Area Controller, following the retirement of Comptroller Effiong Harrison.

At the official handover ceremony in Lagos, Nwokorie pledged to strengthen revenue collection, enhance trade facilitation, and intensify the fight against smuggling.
He assured stakeholders that the command would step up efforts to collect customs duties and import charges, enforce compliance with regulations, and support legitimate trade. Nwokorie also promised to operate an open-door policy and promote inclusiveness to drive performance.

“I thank the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for finding me worthy to serve in this capacity,” he said. “As officers on the field, you are my eyes. I believe we will work together in peace and harmony to achieve our goals.”
In his valedictory remarks, Harrison who bowed out after 35 years of service commended officers for their dedication and professionalism, noting that his tenure recorded no cases of dismissal or interdiction.

Describing Nwokorie’s appointment as a “welcome development,” he expressed confidence that his successor’s experience and security consciousness would further strengthen the command. He urged officers to extend the same loyalty and cooperation to Nwokorie in order to sustain the command’s achievements.
