Anambra Guber: Soludo Says No Real Contest, Accuses Opponents of Fundraising Agenda

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has dismissed the upcoming November 8 governorship election as a non-contest, claiming that other candidates are merely using their campaigns as a means to raise money.

Speaking on Saturday at a massive endorsement rally held at Ekwueme Square, Awka, Soludo, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) flagbearer, said his re-election bid is unchallenged due to a widely accepted zoning arrangement in the state.

“To ensure equity and fairness, we agreed on a zoning system between the three senatorial zones. Anambra Central had Peter Obi, Anambra North had Willie Obiano, and now it’s Anambra South’s turn. We’ll complete our eight years before power rotates again,” Soludo explained to cheering supporters.

He added: “There’s no real contest here. There’s no vacancy in the Anambra Government House. These other so-called candidates are just holding meetings with governors and raising funds.”

Soludo, visibly energized by the massive turnout, thanked party loyalists for their support and pledged to continue his administration’s transformation agenda.

“You’ve seen just the beginning. We’re already working on introducing a rail network in Anambra. With your continued support, a new Anambra will rise,” he said.

He urged APGA members to return to their wards and mobilize voters to ensure a landslide victory come election day.

During the event, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Chukwuma Okoye, read a communiqué on behalf of Anambra Central reaffirming support for the zoning system and endorsing Soludo’s candidacy.

In a symbolic gesture of support, traditional rulers from the Anambra Central Senatorial District conferred the chieftaincy title “Olu Atu Egwu” on Governor Soludo.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated the Anambra governorship election for November 8, 2025, with 16 candidates officially in the race.
