The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, excellence and stronger internal collaboration as the 2025 Comptroller-General of Customs Conference ended on Friday, November 21, with a colourful award night and gala dinner that celebrated top-performing Commands, Units and officers.
The ceremony, held after two days of strategic engagements on operational efficiency and institutional reforms, brought together Management staff, Comptrollers, senior officers and invited guests to honour individuals and formations whose contributions defined the Service’s successes in 2025.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, praised officers for their dedication, noting that the NCS surpassed its 2025 revenue target even before the conference commenced. He described the achievement as the outcome of collective commitment across enforcement operations, trade facilitation and modernization initiatives.
“Tonight is about celebrating ourselves,” the CGC said. “We have worked hard, delivered results and strengthened the pillars that define our mandate. It is only fitting that we pause to acknowledge excellence within the Service.”
One of the major highlights of the night was the recognition of the Customs Public Relations Unit for exceptional performance in strategic communication, media visibility and stakeholder engagement.
The Unit received accolades for its effective projection of Customs reforms, particularly during the C-PACT Summit and the 2025 CGC Conference. Its efforts in combating misinformation and enhancing public trust were central to the recognition.
The Kano/Jigawa Area Command, under the leadership of Comptroller Abubakar Dalhatu, also emerged among the biggest winners of the night. The Command was named Most Improved Command following significant strides in revenue generation, major currency seizures and strengthened enforcement activities. Its Public Relations Officer, CSC Tahir Balarabe, was also awarded Best Public Relations Officer of the Year, acknowledging his excellence in visibility management, crisis communication and proactive engagement with stakeholders.
Several other Commands, Units and officers received awards for outstanding leadership, innovation, discipline, community relations, anti-smuggling efforts and trade facilitation—showcasing the diverse contributions driving the NCS modernisation agenda.
The event concluded with officers reaffirming their commitment to deepen professionalism, strengthen unity and sustain reform momentum as the Service prepares for the coming year.
